Friends Forever
Inti Runakunaq Wasin has piloted a program to provide additional, financial support to targeted families. The families are selected based on criteria including financial need, active child and parental participation at IRW, and a will and determination to improve their current situation.
The donors are provided with a few different family stories and can select the the family that they will support. They agree to provide support for at least one year. Inti Runakunaq Wasin spends the money to buy needed supplies and food for the family and provides regular updates, including pictures, to the donor.
Please see Wilbur's success story as a testament to the success of this program. In addition to Wilbur, four additional children were added to the program over the last two months. In respect of the families, their stories are kept between the families and the donors, but here are a few excerpts.
- One family of four had one single mattress for all of them. They now have a brand new bunk bed and each sleep in their own bed on a brand new mattress.
- A motivated, adolescent is able to take English lessons to help acheive her goal of being a tour guide one day. She wakes up every morning at 5 am, takes a 45 minute bus ride to her English class, then goes to Inti where she does both her school and English homework, participates in workshops, and getting ready to star in an upcoming Inti play. From there, she goes to school in the afternoon and returns home at 6:30 pm. To be successful, she will need to beat all odds, but we certainly believe she can do it.
- After providing some basic supplies, food, and clothing, an adolescent, who recently ran away from home struggling to understand his/her dad, is now back at the house and the two are painting their bedroom together. The father has hopes of building a separate room to provide him/her additional privacy as well.
