Long Term Projects

Inti Runakunaq Wasin continues to expand its investment in and support of children in Cusco, Peru.  Inti Runakunaq Wasin is focused on the following projects:

Subsidy by the Pro-Housing Day Association of National Dignity (Asociación Pro Vivienda Día de la Dignidad Nacional)

Inti Runakunaq Wasin is in the process of signing a cooperation agreement with the Municipality of the Santiago and the Pro-Housing Day Association of National Dignity (Asociación Pro Vivienda Día de la Dignidad Nacional or APV). This APV National Dignity agreement will give IRW use of the third level of a local building for 5 years where they will be able to hold complementary educational activities with the children in this area and adjacent areas (including APV Girald Ruiz Caro, Bolognesi, Ccorimachajhuayniyoc, etc.). IRW hopes to increase their support to children in these areas to a minumum of 50 children and adolescents.

Permanent Home

Since 1999, IRW has rented different properties for the children. The new goal is to find a permanent location for the children where they can come and receive support such as help with their homework. The children can also participate in different programs: educational formatives on development and creativity and additional workshops as part of the Economic Enterprise Program.

Dedicated House for People with Special Needs

Today, six adolescents and young adults with special needs participate in IRW programs, who are intergrated with the other children of IRW. This integration has been successful and enriching for both groups. Nevertheless, the socioeconomic reality for these families is an uncertainty for the future of their children. Inti has envisioned a place for these children and young adults to live in a community together. These young adults would be able to continue to participate en workshops and other activities with the other children.

At Inti Runakunaq Wasin, we believe that these young adults have the capacity to develop their skills and capacities beyond their physical and mental disabilities. For this reason, we believe that it is an urgent need to extend our services and support them to help them develop their skills, be independent, productive, and happy.

Chilcachaca Project

Init Runakunaq Wasin has commissioned the establishment of another place in Chilcachac (located in Huayopata District in the Convencion Province), making benefit of the land that was donated by Sr. Avelino Mar Arais. IRW wants to construct a new type of school, a place where the sons and daughters of farmers from the area could have an integral education. This project would develop their skills and capacities in harmony with nature, would revalue agriculture as a productive acitivity, would teach practices from ancestral cultures, and would create a cultural identity.

It is a challenge for IRW to make this place an area where children, adoloscents, and people with special needs can develop themselves and protect themselves within a community.

Inti Runakunaq Wasin's dream demands the volunteer's from everywhere that want to help support the construction of a solid educative community as a pilot program. This program would help reduce the migration of young adults from the country to the city, the increase in the deforestation of the trees, soil erosion, the burning of wheat fields, etc., which would offer poor children and adoloscents from the country possibilites for a different future.
