What's New?
Last Updated: December 2, 2009
This page is dedicated to those friends of Inti located around the world. Every few months, we will be updating this page to highlight our focus and accomplishments. Again, thank you to all those that support our cause.
This website will be a work in progress with regular updates and additional pictures, so that all of you can stay close to our mission. Please feel free to email us with suggestions and comments. With our new website up and running since July 21, 2008, we are hoping that all of you are able to stay connected. We have been extremely busy in the Fall of 2009. Here are a few of our accomplishments.
Our 10th Anniversary: On October 26, 2009, we celebrated our tenth anniversary of Inti Runakunaq Wasin. This date commemorates our tenth year of working to promote the development of the capacities of children and teenagers in risk situations in Cusco. To celebrate, we held a celebration in our new location on October 24th. In addition to this celebration, we introduced our new book entitled "Children in risk are walking to be entrepeneurs" on October 26th. This book discusses how Inti has worked with the children of Cusco over the last ten years and the successes of our children. Please visit the history of Inti to learn more about our story.
Grand Opening of Our Permanent Location: In October, Inti Runakunaq Wasin opened a permanent location in San Jeronimo. The professors, volunteers, and children have been hard at work making the new location feel like home. The house is much larger than our previous location in Huancaro as it has a yard for the children to play and multiple rooms for workshops. It, also, allows us to open our doors to more children in need as we expand into San Jeronimo. Our main challenge now is to ensure that the children that we have served in Huancaro still have access to Inti. To do this, we are renting a bus to pick up the children in the morning and afternoons. Currently, we are looking to raise enough money to purchase a bus. Any donations to assist this effort would be much appreciated.
Here is video of our new home created by Planterra, a continual supporter of Inti Runakunaq Wasin. They were instrumental in providing us with a new home.
Inti Runakunaq Wasin Artwork For Sale Online: In addition to selling the young people with special needs artwork at Inti, we are now selling greeting cards, coffee cups, post cards, magnets, and mouse pads online at www.zazzle.com/StreetKidsCusco*. We are very proud of our children's creative spirit and artistic abilities.
Vitamin Project: In the Fall of 2009, two volunteers from the US brought another year's supply of vitamins to Inti, so we are able to continue with our vitamin program for another year. The children's enthusiasm in receiving daily vitamins have not dampened. The success of both projects can be seen in the children's enthusiasm as they are quick to remind us at each meal with chants of "Vitaminas! Vitaminas!"
We have been extremely busy over the past few months, but there is more to come as the Christmas season approaches. In our tenth year, we decided to increase our Christmas program. With our new location next to the Women's prison, we decided to include the women and their children in our Christmas celebrations. Our Christmas program is the following:
We are considering providing turkey and presents for all this year. This is a significant upgrade in terms of the food, presents, and number of women and children we are celebrating with. We ask your generous hearts to consider making a donation to assist our efforts.
